Spain's Dani Pedrosa claimed top spot in the world championship MotoGP standings when he won his maiden French Grand Prix on a wet Le Mans course on Sunday. Pedrosa came home ahead of Britain’s Cal Crutchlow, who sealed his highest ever podium finish while riding with a broken leg. Marquez was third, meaning Spaniard Pedrosa leapfrogs his team-mate and compatriot to top the standings. The Honda rider took the lead midway through the race to beat Crutchlow (Yamaha) and rookie Marquez, who were second and third respectively.

Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa took victory in a somewhat processional MotoGP round at Jerez but team-mate Marc Marquez nicked the championship lead with a controversial move on fellow Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo. The Repsol Honda rookie had been looking for a way past Lorenzo on the final lap, trying on the brakes into Dry Sack corner but running wide on the brakes. He then lined up a moved into the final turn, appropriately-named Lorenzo's after a ceremony this weekend, the pair touched and the Yamaha man was pushed wide, leaving Marquez to take second and the series lead.

Aprilia’s Eugene Laverty battled to the bitter end with Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes to claim first place on the podium in the second World Superbike race at Assen this afternoon. Sykes was leading until the final three laps, when the Irish rider decided to make his move. The Huddersfield lad did put up on strong fight, but he ran on to the curb in the final chicane giving Laverty the opportunity to take the lead, and eventually his second World Superbike win of the year. Sykes was not the only Kawasaki on the podium, as young French rider Loris Baz claimed the final step of the podium, but had to contend with challenges from Pata Honda’s Jonathan Rea, and earlier during the 22 lap race a charge from Aprilia’s Sylvain Guintoli.

Spanish rookie Marc Marquez out-duelled Repsol Honda team mate Dani Pedrosa to win the Grand Prix of the Americas in Austin, Texas on Sunday to become the youngest ever winner in the MotoGP premier class. The 20-year-old Marquez, starting on pole, crossed 1.534 seconds ahead of fading Pedrosa to claim his maiden victory while Spain's double world champion Jorge Lorenzo, winner of the season opener in Qatar two weeks ago, was a distant third 3.381 back. Britain's Cal Crutchlow came home fourth on his non-works Tech3 Yamaha followed by Germany's Stefan Bradl fifth.

Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki Shane Byrne secured a record breaking 44th race win in the final MCE British Superbike race at Thruxton. But the race was cut short because of a crash involving PR Racing Kawasaki’s Karl Harris and Bathams Honda rider Tommy Bridewell. The red flag came out and the race was stopped after 14 laps. Harris walked away unharmed, but Bridewell is being treated for a suspected leg injury. But that was not the only incident during the race, the safety car made not one, but two appearances because of crashes involving Samsung Honda’s Ryuichi Kiyonari, who came off his bike on lap two, and then later an incident involving Halsall Racings Lee Costello.

Spain's double world champion Jorge Lorenzo drew first blood by taking the MotoGP floodlit season-opener from pole in Qatar on Sunday as Italian great Valentino Rossi stormed to second. The sensational podium tussle featured Rossi fighting back from an early mistake that dropped him to seventh, ultimately beating the Hondas of Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa to the runner-up spot. Lorenzo held his pole advantage into the first corner and immediately disappeared up the road. An opening-lap lead of 0.6 seconds soon became two seconds and 5.9s by the end.

Eugene Laverty denied Aprilia team-mate Sylvain Guintoli a double victory at the opening World Superbike meeting of the season at Phillip Island in Australia as the factory riders again finished first and second. The Irishman passed his French colleague with two laps remaining to secure his fourth victory in the series. Marco Melandri, who crashed out of race one, completed the podium. Laverty started from the front as pole sitter Carlos Checa was in hospital for checks after that crash with Melandri.

Dani Pedrosa won the Valencia MotoGP as Casey Stoner ended his grand prix career with a podium and world champion Jorge Lorenzo suffered a massive crash. Pedrosa eventually eased to victory ahead of Katsuyuki Nakasuga and Stoner, who passed Alvaro Bautista with two laps remaining. Briton Cal Crutchlow crashed out from a calm situation in second, around half a minute behind Pedrosa and the same ahead of Nakasuga, with seven laps remaining.

Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo sealed his second MotoGP title by cruising to a runner-up finish at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday after Dani Pedrosa, his only challenger to the title, crashed out of contention on the second lap. Honda's Pedrosa trailed fellow Spaniard Lorenzo by 23 points entering the race and had hoped to take the title battle to the final round, but his challenge ended when he lost control at the Phillip Island circuit's hairpin turn four. Lorenzo narrowly avoided the flailing Pedrosa and that was the last of his troubles as he settled into a fuss-free run behind retiring local hero Casey Stoner, who delighted home fans by extending his record to a sixth straight victory in his Down Under swansong.
