Stuttgart had to wait until the 76th minute to break the deadlock, a long ball fell into the path of Mario Gomez and the striker hit a beauty past the keeper. Gomez doubled the lead four minutes later, managing to play a one-two off a defender and striking a low drive into the bottom corner.
Hamburg took the lead against Stuttgart through Trochowski’s 17th minute penalty. Mathijsen made sure of the points with a 73rd minute with a deflected volley from a corner.
Werder Bremen’s excellent recent form counted for nothing in the first-half at Stuttgart as goals from Sami Khedira and Christian Trasch (stunning long-range volley) put the home side two-up at the break. Roberto Hilbert grabbed the third midway through the second-half after a fibe throw from Lehmann had started the move. Minutes later Ribas da Cunha pulled one back from a sweetly stuck free-kick. Lanig added the fourth late on.
Dortmund’s impressive start to the season continued with a convincing win over Stuttgart thanks to Tamas Hajnal’s long-range blast and headers from Felipe Santana and Alexander Frei.
VfB Stuttgart made a convincing start to their Bundesliga campaign with a 3-1 away win over newly promoted Borussia Moenchengladbach. The 2007 champions made light work of last season’s runaway second division winners, taking a 3-0 half-time lead through Thomas Hitzlsperger, Ciprian Marica and Mario Gomez.
After a goalless first half (highlights here), Stuttgart carved Arsenal open straight through the middle as Turkish legend Basturk turned and struck low and hard for the opener. Arsenal weren’t behind for long, Bendtner worked his way in from the right hand side, played a lovely pass forward to Carlos Vela, and the young Mexican controlled the ball on his thigh before firing high in the net. Moments later it was Vela who was the provider, with Bendtner staying strong to take the ball in the box and fire past Jens Lehmann. The Gunners turnaround was completed with a fine third created by Gael Clichy, who bustled down the left hand side before crossing to Jack Wilshere who controlled and hit a low hard shot inside the near post.
