Stefan Kiessling fired Leverkusen into the lead at home to Schalke. Patrick Helmes doubled the lead before the break with a lovely shot on the turn. Kevin Kuranyi scored for Schalke with five minutes remaining to set up a nervous last few minutes, but Leverkusen held on to stay top of the league.
It was a blistering start at the Veltins-Arena, Luca Toni scoring after just three minutes with a shot in the near post, only for Schalke to level two minutes later when Jefferson Farfan hit a shot into the far corner. Bayern retook the lead on the half hour mark, Ribery played a slick one-two with Ze Roberto and the Frenchman stroked in number two.
After Orlando Engelaar had been sent off seven minutes into the second half, Schalke won the match late on with goals from Heiko Westermann and Gerald Asamoah.
Mabiala inadvertently turned home Kobiashvili’s cross to give Schalke the lead. In the 39th minute Kevin Kuranyi doubled the hosts’ advantage, firing home from outside the box. After the break Altintop added a fine third after exchanging passes with Kuranyi, leaving PSG to savour Chantome’s late consolation goal.
Slack Schalke passing gifted Hamburg the ball, and Per Trochowski drilled home the opener just before the half hour mark. At the start of the second half Schalke drew level, Howedes scoring from a free-kick.
Kevin Kuranyi connected with a knock-down to volley Schalke ahead. The visitors struck back after the break, a throw-in from the right was volleyed into the box where Dzeko headed home the equaliser. And Wolfsburg looked to have completed the turnaround when slick one-touch passing freed Silva who buried his shot in the near post. But a last-gasp leveller from Kuranyi earned Schalke a point.
Frankfurt had Chris sent off on 34 minutes for a foul on Heiko Westermann and seven minutes later Jefferson Farfan’s shot found the net via Patrick Ochs’ deflection.
