Back came Madrid, Raul tucking home his second of the game. Bueno put the hosts ahead for the first time on the night with a stunning strike into the top corner and Raul looked to have killed the tie with his hat-trick goal four minutes from time. But at the death the unbelievable happened, Romo scoring deep into injury time to knock out the La Liga powerhouse on away goals.
Eliseu silenced the Bernabeu after five minutes with a stunning solo run down the right hand side, making his way through on goal and eventually turning the ball home after a shot was parried. Three minutes later Higuain equalised after the keeper saved Guti’s shot. But Malaga stunned the hosts for the second time when Nabil Baha steered home a cross. But back came Real, and Higuain drew Madrid level from the penalty spot from a Malaga handball (was it in the box?). A minute before half-time Ramos was sent off and that led to an incredible final twenty minutes. Malaga took the lead for the third time from a penalty by Apono. Only for Higuain to hit back straight away with an equaliser with a fine right footed strike. Then on 78 minutes Higuain grabbed his and Madrid’s fourth, slotting home after his penalty had been saved, as Los Blancos went into the lead for the first time in the game.
Alessandro Del Piero continued his excellent recent form at the Santiago Bernabeu by firing in a 20-yard low drive to give Juve the lead in Madrid. Sergio Ramos had a glorious chance to cap his return to the first team with an equaliser, but his back-post volley narrowly skied the bar. Ruud van Nistelrooy was the next to miss the target after being released by Guti. Juventus then extended their lead after the break, Iker Casillas lined-up up his wall poorly and Alessandro Del Piero was able to pick his spot to the right of the motionless keeper.

But Real took the points in the second half, Higuain racing through the middle and finishing expertly.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy met a Gabriel Heinze cross to reduce the deficit in the 66th minute but Claudio Ranieri’s well-organised defence held firm to leapfrog the Spanish champions in the table.

Ruud van Nistelrooy shot Real Madrid into an early lead in the local derby against Atletico. Minutes later Sneijder nearly doubled the lead but his shot hit the bar. The home sides task was then made even harder when Luis Perea was sent off for smacking Sneijder in the face. But, five minutes before the break, goalscorer Ruud van Nistelrooy was also shown the red card for a bad tackle to even things up at 10 men for both teams. In the 90th minute, Atletico equalised when Simao scored with a well struck free-kick. But Atletico’s joy was short-lived as deep in injury-time Drenthe was fouled in the box by Heitinga and Higuain scored the penalty to give Real a barely deserved win.
