In the 51st minute Iaquinta doubled Juve’s lead, scoring on the second attempt after his spot-kick was saved.

Pavel Nedved, who has been in sparkling form of late, gave Juventus an early lead at Bologna with a brilliant solo goal, cutting in from the left and firing home with his right foot. After the break Nedved doubled both his and Juve’s advantage as his near-post cross crept into the net. Marco Di Viao scored a consolation for Bologna in the final stages.

Juventus held on to complete a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Real Madrid at Stadio Olimpico and move to the top of Champions League Group H. A fifth minute wonder strike from captain Alessandro Del Piero gave the Bianconeri the lead and Carvalho Amauri added a second-half header. Ruud Van Nistelrooy met a Gabriel Heinze cross to reduce the deficit in the 66th minute but Claudio Ranieri’s well-organised defence held firm to leapfrog the Spanish champions in the table.

But Del Piero brought the Bianconeri level with a free-kick which rocketed past the flapping keeper. Juve’s mood was soured minutes later with Sissoko’s dismissal. Palermo then shocked Juve in the second half, Mchedlidze was sent clear to bag the second and consign the Old Lady to a surprise defeat.

Incredibly, the Belorussians then moved two to the good when Stasevich added a second six minutes later by beating Nedved to a back post header. But the Old Lady halved the deficit before the half hour as Iaquinta headed home Giovinco’s cross. On the stroke of halftime Juve drew level, once again Giovinco was the provider for Iaquinta who slotted the ball between the legs of the keeper.
