New Zealand shamed world champions South Africa 19-0 in their Newlands Cape Town home in the Tri-Nations. Conrad Smith, Dan Carter and Keven Mealamu scored the tries for the All Blacks. Percy Montgomerie made his 100th appearance for South Africa but missed two penalties, while Carter also missed a host of set-pieces for New Zealand while adding two conversions. The victory took the All Blacks to the top of the table and revived their chances of retaining their title.

New boys Hull pulled off a great win after Seol Ki-Hyeon had headed the Cottagers into the lead. Giovanni equalised with a fine curling effort and Caleb Folan slid home the winner after Fagan had robbed Konchesky.
Gretar Steinsson scored a stunner to give Bolton the lead over Stoke, smashing a bending shot from the right hand side of pitch which sailed into the far post off the underside of the bar. Kevin Davies and Johan Elmander added goals before the break, Ricardo Fuller scored the consolation for Stoke in injury-time.
A US team of NBA All Stars made easy work out of defeating Spain in a 119-82 victory as the reigning world champions suffered their first defeat in the Beijing Olympic basketball tournament. This victory left the United States one win away from topping Group B, something they will achieve if they beat Germany next week. The Americans used their signature blanket defense and a high powered offense to put the game away early in the second quarter, going up by 20 points with a balanced attack based on an array of fast break dunks and savvy outside shooting.
