14/06/2008: Greece-Russia 0-1 (UEFA Euro 2008)

Scritto da: admin, il 14 June 2008, 5:55 pm

Holders Greece were knocked out of Euro 2008 after a thrilling 1-0 defeat against Russia in Salzburg. Champions in Portugal four years ago, Otto Rehhagel’s side cannot reach the quarter-finals whatever the result of their remaining Group D game against Spain, who have already qualified. Russia must beat Sweden in their final game to reach the last eight. Konstantin Zyrianov’s first-half strike from close range proved decisive, although both sides missed numerous opportunities in an unexpectedly captivating encounter.

14/06/2008: Sweden-Spain 1-2 (UEFA Euro 2008)

Scritto da: admin, il 14 June 2008, 3:00 pm

A stoppage-time winner from David Villa gave Spain a dramatic 2-1 win over Sweden in their Euro 2008 Group D encounter in Innsbruck. Villa finished coolly in the 92nd minute after latching on to a long ball from Joan Capdevila, the Valencia man’s fourth goal of the tournament. It gave Spain three points that ensured a place in the quarter-finals after a sub-par team performance. Fernando Torres opened the scoring on 15 minutes with a close-range effort before Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalised just after the half-hour with a low strike.

14/06/2008: New Zealand-England 37-20 (Rugby Test Match)

Scritto da: admin, il 14 June 2008, 2:00 pm

Fly-half Dan Carter scored 22 points as New Zealand out-classed an error-prone England side 37-22 in the first Test in Auckland. The score-line flattered an England team playing their first game under absent manager Martin Johnson as New Zealand swept them aside with four tries to maintain their unbeaten five-year home record. England can take some consolation from the performance of two-try debutant Topsy Ojo, but overall they were out-played in all areas of the field.
