Belief continues to be the New Jersey Devils' biggest ally. They'll take it across the country with them for what just a few days ago seemed like an impossible opportunity in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. For the second time in as many games, the Devils fought off elimination and made sure the Stanley Cup stayed in its carrying case. They handed the Los Angeles Kings their first road loss of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in Game 5 Saturday at Prudential Center, 2-1, while also becoming the first team since 1945 to force a Game 6 in the Stanley Cup Final after losing the first three.

People crammed into Staples Center and the restaurants of L.A. Live on Wednesday night expecting to celebrate the first championship in the 45-year history of the Kings. Terry Sawchuk became the first official player for Los Angeles on June 6, 1967, as the organization's first pick in the expansion draft, so it was to be a birthday bash of epic proportions. Well, the New Jersey Devils did not send an RSVP. Rookie Adam Henrique had another huge postseason goal and New Jersey defeated Los Angeles 3-1 in Game 4 of the 2012 Stanley Cup Final, ensuring another home game Saturday at Prudential Center (8 p.m. ET; NBC, CBC, RDS) and providing hope that a comeback is still possible.

At one point, after another incredible save by Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown skated by his goaltender, shook his head and unsuccessfully tried to hold back a mischievous smile. Quick had just robbed Travis Zajac on a point-blank chance, but it has been that kind of postseason for the Kings. Whenever it seems like it can't get any better for a team that needed 81 games to qualify for the postseason, it does -- and is now one victory away from capping quite possibly the most remarkable run to a championship in NHL history. Buoyed at first by strong goaltending from Quick and a dominant group of penalty-killers in front of him, the Kings held off an early surge by the New Jersey Devils before blitzing them with four unanswered goals in a 4-0 victory in Game 3 of the 2012 Stanley Cup Final.

02/06/2012: New Jersey Devils – Los Angeles Kings 1-2 OT (Game 2 – NHL Stanley Cup 2012)

The road streak is alive, and the Los Angeles Kings are just three wins away from their first Stanley Cup championship since their inception in 1967. Anze Kopitar's breakaway goal 8:13 into overtime Wednesday at Prudential Center gave the Kings a 2-1 win against the New Jersey Devils in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final. Jonathan Quick faced only 17 shots, but he stopped 16 of them for the win. The Kings, who improved to 3-0 in overtime this postseason, are the first team in NHL history to win its first nine road games in a single postseason. If they win Game 2 Saturday at Prudential Center, they will tie a NHL record for most road wins in a single postseason.

In the deafening moments after Beno Udrih made an off-balance, go-ahead jumper with 1.7 seconds left, Arco Arena pulsed with every bit the same audible energy it possessed during the Sacramento Kings' heyday with Vlade Divac, whose jersey was retired at halftime. Rasual Butler had a different ending in mind, however. There's no time for nostalgia when his injury-plagued New Orleans Hornets are in the thick of a playoff chase. Butler hit a 3-pointer as time expired to cap a final minute full of dramatic plays, and the Hornets improbably survived the Kings' late rally for a 111-110 victory on Tuesday night, improving their playoff position by the slimmest of margins.

Gerald Wallace spent a couple nights in the hospital earlier this season with a partially collapsed lung, so he was quick to reject a doctor's suggestion he make another trip there after crumpling to the court with a scary-looking left knee injury. Wallace returned with a slight limp for the second half and finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds, willing the Bobcats to a much-needed 104-88 win over the short-handed Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night.

Kevin Martin had 26 points, seven rebounds and eight assists Sunday night for the Sacramento Kings, who never trailed in defeating the slumping Nuggets 114-106. Entering the game tied with Utah and clinging to a half-game lead over Portland in the Northwest Division, the Nuggets were in desperate need of a road win. It has been a bad couple of weeks overall for Denver, which has dropped seven of 10 games to fall behind the Jazz, who won at Toronto earlier in the day.
