Mainz were opened up in the first half against Dortmund as Mario Gotze showed twinkle toes to dance through the home defence and leave the league leaders chasing the match. Eugen Polanski should have brought Mainz level but the midfielder missed a second half penalty, and Dortmund made them pay in the 67th when Lucas Barrios rounded the keeper to confidently dispatch a second.
