Carlos Checa made it the perfect weekend by completing a Silverstone double to give himself breathing space at the summit of the World Superbike Championship. After the championship leader blazed to victory in race one, he repeated the achievement in similarly dominant style with his title rivals Marco Melandri and reigning champion Max Biaggi powerless to stop the Spaniard. In a carbon copy of the first race, the Althea Racing rider hung on the tail of Yamaha rider Eugene Laverty before powering through on lap seven and leaving the rest of the field in his wake.
