Valencia took the lead when David Villa volleyed home after a well-worked attack from the home side. Mata doubled the lead after 20 minutes with a fine solo goal. After the break Betis got a foothold in the match with a Juanma strike that went in the near post. And after Marchena was sent off, Emana drew the visitors level from the spot, only for Rubin Baraja to restore Valencia’s advantage in the 73rd minute.
