Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson played a strong team in Holland as Utrecht played their first game against an English team. Midway through the first half Raul Meireles had a decent headed change for Liverpool that Vorm easily held. Shortly after Wuytens saw his goal disallowed for Utrecht due to Mulenga who adjudged to have held back a Liverpool defender. Utrecht had much the better of the chances in the first 45. Utrecht continued to look the more dangerous side in the second half and could well have won a penalty late on when Carragher tugged the shirt of Wuytens in the box.
