The repeat of the Champions League final looked to be going the way of Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United when Nani slotted home after he was set free by Welbeck just after the 20 minute mark. Barcelona drew level on 70 minutes, Thiago Alcantara continuing his majestic pre-season form and belting a rocket into David De Gea’s top corner. Five minutes later though and Manchester United were back in front through Michael Owen’s chip over Valdes thanks to fine work from Cleverley. Michael Owen should have added a third for United at the death, but the strike woefully missed the target from point-blank range.
