Casey Stoner won the Assen MotoGP to draw level with Jorge Lorenzo at the top of the MotoGP standings after the Spanish star crashed at the first corner. Alvaro Bautista took out Lorenzo from behind as Dani Pedrosa passed pole sitter Stoner for the lead. However after a long battle alone at the front, Stoner passed his Repsol Honda team-mate with a risky move to take a lead he would not relinquish. Tech 3’s Andrea Dovizioso emerged triumphant from a fight with Ben Spies on the factory Yamaha to complete the podium behind Pedrosa.
