After both sides had penalty appeals turned down, when Liverpool were awarded a spot kick for an Alex handball, Andy Carroll stepped up and saw Ross Turnbull save his effort on 22 minutes played. Just before the hour Liverpool took the lead, Henderson and Bellamy worked it well for Maxi Rodriguez to tap in at the back post. Five minutes later Martin Kelly headed home his first Liverpool goal from a Bellamy free-kick for 2-0.
