Team Sky’s Chris Froome moved into a surprise Vuelta race lead after a superb ride in the 47km ITT in Salamanca, won by the German favourite Tony Martin (HTC). Kenyan-born British rider Froome set the second-best time in stage 10 of the race, coming home 59 seconds down on Martin’s time of 55 minutes and 54 seconds. Froome’s compatriot and team-mate Bradley Wiggins, who led at the first intermediate check after 13km, slowed over the remaining two thirds of the flat course to set the third best time in Salamanca’s famous Plaza Mayor, 1:22 down on Martin.
