Spurs, who carved out the greater opening throughout the first half, were sucker-punched in the 41st minute by Martin Skrtel who fired Liverpool in front getting on the end of a free-kick. Jermain Defoe missed a penalty after the break, but Tottenham eventually levelled in the 65th minute when the brilliant Luka Modric broke in the inside left channel and he saw his cross turned into the net by Martin Skrtel. A terrific match went Spurs’ way in the 92nd minute, Assou-Ekotto launched a hoof up to Crouch, the beanpole touched the ball into the path of Aaron Lennon and, after leaving Konchesky for dead, the speedster slipped his shot past Reina for the winner.
