The breakthrough came in the 18th minute, on his return to the starting line-up Arjen Robben cut inside in familiar style and shot past Mucha at the near post to give Holland the lead. After an entertaining second half, where both Mucha and Stekelenburg had made crucial saves, Wesley Sneijder sidefooted the Dutch second after good work by Dirk Kuyt. Deep into injury time, with the last kick of the game, Robert Vittek scored from the penalty spot to halve the deficit.
