The Gunners, sprinkled with the classic selection of youngsters in the cup, survived a few hairy first half moments at St James’ Park in the first half before a cruel own goal for Tim Krul, who comically saw the ball rebound off his head and in, gave the North Londoners the lead. Arsenal; scored a controversial second early in the second half when Theo Walcott was freed over the top and finished expertly but an offside Bendtner appeared to cynically take out Toon defender Williamson in the build-up to leave the Magpies spitting blood. The Gunners sealed their safe passage through to the next round in the 81st minute as Nicklas Bendtner cut in from the left and rifled a beauty into the far top corner. It was game, set and match in the 88th as Theo Walcott streak through the centre and calmly finished for a resounding fourth.
