Max Biaggi tightened his grip on the World Superbike Championship title by claiming both races during round eight in Misano, Italy. Biaggi overhauled Australian Tim Corser to claim race one and repeated the trick in race two before pulling away from British championship rival Leon Haslam. Haslam was forced to fend off a late challenge from first Cal Crutchlow and then Michel Fabrizio to keep alive his hopes of tracking down the Italian in the race for the overall title. Biaggi extended his lead in the standings to 32 points after race one and after he passed Corser there was no chance of him being caught as he eventually finished almost five seconds clear of the field.
