Mesut Ozil had an early chance on five minutes but David James saved with his legs. The opener came on 20 minutes, a goal kick from Neuer caught out the England defence, Miroslav Klose beat Upson and then James to the ball to slide Germany in front. Twelve minutes later Germany doubled their lead, a fine move was finished from a tight angle by Lukas Podolski. Eight minutes before the break Matthew Upson headed one back for the Three Lions from a Gerrard cross. Incredibly, 58 seconds later, with echoes of 1966, Frank Lampard lobbed Neuer with the ball bouncing down off the bar and in, but the ref Jorge Lorrionda waved play on Midway through the second half, after England had been pressing, Germany broke from a Lampard free kick that was blocked and Schweinsteiger squared for Thomas Muller to fire home the third. Minutes later, with England still attacking, Germany broke again, Ozil skinned Barry and squared for Thomas Muller to score his second and seal the win.
