Liverpool could have taken the lead but Fabio Borini sidefooted a glorious opportunity wide, while at the other end Carlos Tevez was so unlucky when a tenacious shot stayed out off the inside of the post. Anfield erupted in the 34th minute when Martin Skrtel scored with a booming header from a Gerrard corner. Liverpool almost doubled their lead when Vincent Kompany sent the ball narrowly over the City bar. Just after the hour City levelled as a comedy of errors in the Reds defence allowed Yaya Toure to convert Tevez’s right wing cross. Liverpool immediately went up the other end and, after winning a free-kick, Luis Suarez curled a beauty into the near post to regain the lead. With 11 minutes remaining Carlos Tevez scored an equaliser as he intercepted a terrible pass from Srktel to score easily past Reina.
