On the hour, after relentless US pressure in the second half, Clint Dempsey burst into the box after nutmegging John Mensah and was brought down by Jonathan Mensah, all American hero Landon Donovan converted the spot kick off the right hand post. Three minutes into extra time Ghana talisman Asamoah Gyan burst into the box and finished well to give Ghana the lead again.
