Carlos Checa all but secured himself the World Superbike title by profiting from a cruel bike issue for Jonathan Rea to take victory in race two at the Imola circuit in Italy. Althea Ducati rider Checa’s victory — his 12th of an imperious season — leaves him 97 points clear at the top of the standings with just 100 available from the last two rounds. Yet the Spaniard needed a large slice of luck to take the 25 points, with race one victor Rea seemingly having a double win in the bag until a mechanical issue ended his race with four laps remaining.
