Freshly retired from international football, Damien Duff gave Fulham the lead inside 5 minutes. The United equaliser came from new boy Robin Van Persie. Shinji Kagawa took from his fellow new-boys lead, prodding home the second from the rebound. Fulham were given a lifeline when Nemanja Vidic scored into his own net. After only coming on a sub, Wayne Rooney was forced off right at the death with a huge gash in his leg.
