It took Liverpool just over three minutes to take the lead in Hungary, a short corner was whipped in by Aurelio towards Carragher at the back stick, the centre half headed the ball back across goal and David Ngog flicked out a leg to turn the ball home. In the 37th minute Ngog came close to a second, seeing his 25-yard effort turned aside by the Debrecen keeper Poleksic.
