Ten minutes before the break Arsenal struck, a long Vermaelen ball from the back bounced just outside the Liege box, Landry Mulemo slipped and Samir Nasri was quick on the scene to pounce. The Gunners doubled their lead just before the halftime whistle as Denilson let rip with a beauty from 30-yards that whizzed into the Belgians’ net. Standard’s Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez saw red late on for a headbutt on Cesc Fabregas.
