Eugene Laverty picked up his first victory of the season in World Superbike race two in Portimao but the big winner was his teammate Max Biaggi in third. Biaggi now holds a 30.5 points lead at the top of the overall standings going into the final week after his two main rivals Tom Sykes and Marco Melandri suffered misfortune. Sykes, who won the first race of the day, was forced to retire with technical issues while Melandri did not even start the race after hurting himself in the opening race.
