There were few chances early doors but plenty of needle as Jose Callejon kicked the ball at Sergio Busquets’ head and Xabi Alonso did clatter Sergio Busquets who took a couple of rolls to accentuate the foul. Just before the 20 minute mark Lionel Messi lashed wide of the left hand post. Towards the end of the first half Alexis Sanchez attempted a dirty dive to win a penalty. Ten minutes into the second half Cristiano Ronaldo headed home a corner for 1-0. Barcelona responded immediately, Pedro equalising after an excellent touch. On 70 Lionel Messi completed the turnaround from the penalty spot after Iniesta had been fouled by Ramos. In the 78th minute it was 3-1, Andres Iniesta with a brilliant assist for Xavi. Real Madrid were gifted a lifeline in the two-legged final thanks to a Victor Valdes mistake allowing Angel Di Maria to pull one back.
