Cadel Evans will be the first Australian to win the Tour de France after finishing second in the deciding ITT at Grenoble, won by the German Tony Martin. BMC’s Evans finished the lumpy 42.5km individual time trial seven seconds slower than Martin’s time of 55 minutes and 33 seconds – but a massive 2:30 faster than overnight yellow jersey Andy Schleck, who he trailed by 57 seconds in the GC prior to the event. Schleck (Leopard Trek) finished 2:37 down on HTC’s Martin, while his brother Frank was a further three seconds off the pace. The two teammates will stand either side of Evans on the podium in Paris on Sunday, with second-place Andy trailing the Australian by 1:34 and third-place Frank 2:30 down.
