Chelsea opened against Newcastle with a goal from the kids of tomorrow, Gael Kakuta squared to 20-year-old Dutch defender Patrick van Aanholt, the former Toon loanee, who side-footed a shot through Tim Krul. The Magpies levelled at the Bridge when Shane Ferguson sends over a cross from the left that Nile Ranger converted at the back post. From there the Geordies moved in front as Ryan Taylor scored a picture-perfect free-kick that gave Ross Turnbull no chance. Chelsea were starring down the barrel four minutes after the restart when Shola Ameobi curled a shot past a lacklustre Turnbull. The Pensioners got back into the match with 20 minutes on the clock as Van Aanholt crossed from the left and Nicolas Anelka steered a first-time shot into the far post. The comeback was the fully on when, four minutes from time, Anelka notched his brace from the penalty spot after Alex won a soft call under a tackle from Williamson. Amazingly though it was the Toon who pulled out a last gasp winner, Shola Ameobi was the hero as he glanced a header into the corner of the net to claim a famous victory.
