Fernando Alonso won his third race of the season with a composed drive at the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim. The championship leader stretched his advantage to 34 points, with Sebastian Vettel finishing runner-up at his home Grand Prix and Jenson Button ending a dreadful run of form with a spirited drive to take third. Vettel's passing move on Button in the penultimate lap is under investigation by the stewards as the Red Bull man completed it while he was off the track. But the top three were comfortably clear of Kimi Raikkonen in fourth, with the Sauber duo of Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez impressing to score good points in fifth and sixth.
