Marco Melandri closed the gap on World Superbike Championship leader Max Biaggi with victory in both races at Brno. In race one the Italian started fifth on the grid at the Czech circuit, but powered to victory 1.360 seconds ahead of pole-sitter Tom Sykes. Loris Baz finished third ahead of defending champion Carlos Checa after starting way back in 15th. In race two Sykes was once again the man to beat, but Melandri was up to the task, sweeping around him on the penultimate lap and defending doggedly to hold him off on the finish line by less than two-tenths of a second.
