Arsenal started brightly with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain dribbling dangerously down the left hand side, while on the quarter hour Theo Walcott was less productive after the Gunners again broke down the left channel. The Ox teed up Theo Walcott in the 24th minute but the winger’s shooting was poor. At the other end Luis Nani had a shot into the near post saved by Szczesny, while minutes later Wayne Rooney appeared to dive when trying to win a penalty against the Gunners. United broke the deadlock on the stroke of halftime as a Giggs cross from the left was headed home by Antonio Valencia. Arsenal should have levelled in the 50th but Robin van Persie blasted a shot wide from six yards out. The Gunners continued to look menacing as Aaron Ramsey fired over, Patrice Evra blocked a Rosicky shot with his arm, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain dragged a shot just wide of the upright. At the other end Danny Welbeck had a shot scooped off the line by Per Mertesacker. Twenty minutes from time Arsenal finally equalised courtesy of an acute finish from Robin van Persie (who else!) after a lovely slide-pass from the Ox. Nine minutes from time United got their noses back in front as Valencia cut the ball back to Danny Welbeck who thundered a first time shot into the net.
