An unfortunate own goal from Michael Ciani, slicing a corner into his own net, handed Bayern a sixth minute lead in Bordeaux. Just before the half hour mark Les Girondins levelled with a brilliant goal, Michael Ciani going from zero to header converting a corner with a Zola-esque flick into the near post. Munich then had Thomas Muller sent off for two bookings, and as well as being a man down they found themselves a goal down at the break after Marc Planus stuck a boot out to score from a scrappy free-kick.
