Bayern prise open Valencia in the 38th minute and Bastian Schweinsteiger applied the final finish with his right boot. Valencia were killed off in the 76th minute after Toni Kroos lashed a howitzer past Diego Alves. The match had terrific late drama as Nelson Valdez pulled a goal back for Valencia, before Adil Rami was sent off when giving away a late penalty which Mario Mandzukic subsequently missed.
