Dimitar Berbatov’s late header in the first half was the reward for Manchester United dominating the opening forty-five against a toothless Liverpool. United doubled their lead in remarkable circumstances after the break, Nani whipped in a cross for the right which was meant for Rooney but reached Dimitar Berbatov, the Bulgarian controlled the ball on his thigh before dispatching a world-class overhead-kick which beat Reina off the underside of the bar. But Liverpool managed to get themselves back in the game almost immediately, Evans took out Torres in the box and Stevie G made no mistake from the spot. Last defender John O’Shea then pulled down Torres on the edge of the United box only to surprisingly escaped a red card, but Steven Gerrard made sure Liverpool reaped the rewards taking advantage of Fletcher’s shift in the wall to curl in a free-kick for 2-2. United refused to lose though and Dimitar Berbatov stole the headlines heading in his hat-trick goal in the 82nd.
