Martin Skrtel headed Liverpool into a 5th minute lead. 12 minutes later Brighton were level as Kazenga Lua Lua cracked home a terrific free-kick past Pepe Reina. Just before half-time Liverpool went 2-1 up thanks to a scrappy goal, eventually turned into his own net by Liam Bridcutt. Andy Carroll all but sealed the win with a fine low finish from a Stewart Downing cut back for 3-1 Liverpool on 57. It was four for the home side when Liam Bridcutt scored another own goal from a Steven Gerrard cross and four minutes later it was a hat-trick of og’s for Brighton with the best of the lot, a comedy keepy-uppy effort from Lewis Dunk. With 10 minutes to go Luis Suarez saw his penalty saved by Peter Brezovan only for the Uruguayan to claim the 6th four minutes later.
