Fiorentina raced ahead against Atalanta when a free-kick fell to Gonzalo Rodriguez who thumped the ball home, but the Viola were pegged back just after the half hour when Giacomo Bonaventura stabbed in the equaliser. Fiorentina regained the lead through a terrific free-kick from Alberto Aquilani, and the hosts went 3-1 up before the break when Aquilani headed home a set-play. Atalanta fell 4-1 behind after the break when an Aquilani cross was headed in by Luca Toni.
