Gabriel Torje hit the bar from a free-kick for Romania early doors. On 9 Jeremain Lens made it 1-0 with a long range header. The second came just before the half hour as Bruno Martins Indo converted from a van der Vaart assist. Five minutes before the break Ciprian Marica drilled Romania back into contention, however Holland quickly reasserted themselves as Rafael van der Vaart made it 3-1 before the break with a penalty. Robin van Persie sealed the win with the Dutch fourth.
