Argentinian keeper Romero made a fine save early on to deny Chile the lead. Lionel Messi opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a typical left footed finish. Gonzalo Higuain scored a wonderful solo goal minutes later. Gary Medel had a chance to pull one back for Chile but took too long to pull the trigger. Sergio Aguero can count himself unlucky, hitting the post after a lovely piece of skill. Lionel Messi had a wonderful strike well saved by the Chilean goalkeeper. Felipe Gutierrez scored an injury time consolation goal for Chile.
