Everton appeared to take the lead through Kevin Mirallas but the linesman wrongly gave it offside. Leon Osman gave Everton the lead with an absolute belter from 30 yards. Steven Pienaar was sent off with half an hour to go for a second yellow card. Jan Mucha pulled off a brilliant double save to keep City at bay. Nikica Jelavic scored late on to double 10 man Everton’s lead.
