Many eyebrows were raised when Anatoliy Tymoshchuk appeared to taunt Franck Ribery in the tunnel as the teams waited to step out onto the pitch. The match had barely started before the heavens opened to produce Noah’s Ark levels of rain, and the match was instantly suspended. After a long delay the match restarted, and in the 15th minute Jeremy Menez had a goal wiped off for offside. Early in the second half France took the lead as Jeremy Menez cut in from the right and slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Three minutes later it was 2-0 Les Bleus as Benzema slipped in Yohan Cabaye in the inside left channel and the midfielder buried home a low shot. In an amazing show of dominance, France strung together 20 passes before Yohan Cayabe hit the post.
