Much to the joy of the romantics it was Atletico Bilbao, not Barcelona, who struck first in the Cop Del Rey final when Gaizka Toquero headed home a back-post corner from Francisco Yeste. On the half hour Yaya Toure drew Barca level with a low shot that deflected into the near post. The Catalans took control of the match early in the second half, Leo Messi converted a rebound before Bojan Krkic slipped in a beautiful third off the far post. A super free-kick from Xavi made it three goals in five minutes to kill the match.
