The Gunners had a great start in Germany as Thomas Vermaelen flicked on a sixth minute corner to fire the Londoners ahead. Arsenal extended their lead on the quarter hour when Lukas Podolski buried a penalty against his former employers after Oxlade-Chamberlain was brought down in the area. On the stroke of halftime Arsenal scored again as Lukas Podolski cracked in his second of the game after a left wing cut-back. It got better for Arsenal in the 62nd when Gervinho stole possession on the left side, used a defender as a decoy and slotted the ball inside the near post.
