Carlos Checa took a giant leap towards the 2011 World Superbike title after claiming his second successive double of the season at Misano in Italy, and it does not even matter that it is only round six. Checa, who took victory in race one ahead of last year’s champion Max Biaggi, repeated the trick in race two at San Marino winning again by more than two seconds ahead of the Italian. The Spaniard had to do it the hard way however with race two restarted following Marco Melandri’s crash 10 laps in as Checa was running at the front. But it made little difference and the Althea Racing rider soon worked his way to the front again and a mistake by Biaggi helped him notch his eighth win of the season and third double.
