After 10 minutes, Xavi opened the scoring on his 400th appearance after Cesc Fabregas had hit the post. Two minutes later it was 2-0 as Lionel Messi converted a delicious Alexis Sanchez cross. Betis halved the deficit on 32 as Ruben Castro tapped in from close range. Betis clawed back level after the break courtesy of a wonderful strike from Roque Santa Cruz. Betis were reduced to ten men when Mario collected a second yellow in the 71st, and Barcelona were quick to capitalise when Alexis Sanchez scored four minutes later with a low shot into the near post. Barca sealed the win three minutes from time when Lionel Messi converted from the spot.
