Everton took the lead early doors through the returning Steven Pienaar. A scuffed left-footed shot from Frank Lampard was one of few chances for Chelsea in the first half. With 19 minutes to go Denis Stracqualursi made it 2-0 Everton after a thunderous Phil Neville tackle on Ashley Cole followed by a Landon Donovan assist.
