Reigning champion Max Biaggi rounded off an impressive weekend at Brno by taking the World Superbike race two win to keep up the pressure on championship leader Carlos Checa. Biaggi put his Aprilia Alitalia on pole position in qualifying before coming out – just – on the wrong end of a battle with Marco Melandri in race one, ending a useful second. However, despite again having to battle it out with compatriot Melandri, 40-year-old Biaggi wasn’t going to be denied his second race win of the season in race two. With Althea Ducati rider Checa only able to grab his second third-place of the day at the Czech Republic track Biaggi’s win reduced the Spaniard’s lead at the head of the standings to 30 points.
