The Scousers broke the deadlock after 13 minutes in a lovely counter-attacking move started with Skrtel’s 60-yard pass, Bellamy squared the ball in the box, and Maxi Rodriguez finished from point-blank range. Liverpool doubled their advantage just three minutes later when Maxi Rodriguez tucked in his second goal at the back stick in rapid succession. Blackburn had the opportunity to get back into the game in the 25th when Alexander Doni was sent off for fouling Hoilett, but Rovers forward Yakubu weakly passed his spot-kick to rarely-seen keeper Brad Jones. Ewood Park finally had something to cheer in the 36th minute when Yakubu headed home a Dunn free-kick. Liverpool imploded on the hour when Jones spilled high ball in the box and pushed Yakubu to give away a penalty, while Yakubu dusted himself down to equalise 2-2 from the spot.
